The Domaine du Faucon Doré was created in 1985 with an exceptional vintage. The vineyard consists of 22 hectares of Côtes du Rhône AOC and 5 hectares of table wine. The soil is lime, clay and pebbles.
Since 1999 The Faucon Doré is certified Organic (Ecocert).
Since 2009, The Faucon Dore is certified Biodynamic (Demeter)
What does Biological Wine encounter for ?
It is mostly with the work in the vineyards that the difference between "Traditional Agriculture" and "Biological Agriculture" may be understood.
1) With Biological Agriculture, weed killers are forbidden, weeds are removed by the means of mechanical or thermic means.
2) Only organic fertilizers may be used, no chemical fertilizers.
3) The protection of the plants is only achieved using natural products.
There is also some notable differences with vinification.
The yeasts starting fermentation should be natural grape strands, GMOs are excluded. The amounts of SO2 are reduced by half. Headaches and gastric burns are most unlikely from drinking biological wine.
On our domain, no fining agent is applied or filtering is performed on the wine. All the wine characteristics are thus preserved. The only inconvenience may appear as a slight sediment in the bottle, but this does not alter the taste in any way.
Benefits of Biological wine ?
> The yield being naturally reduced, we have a better concentration of aromas color and alcohol.
> The bunches have lost some of their grapes, the flow of air around them is improved and thus the grapes are less prone to rot. The tougher skin favor the colour of the wine due to an increased exchange during vinification.
> Nature is being respected.
Inconveniences of Biological wine ?
> Loss in yield.
> An increase in mechanical operations.
> Require more presence on the vineyards, so an increase in labour.
> Phytosanitary products are washed away by any 20 mm rainfall, so are less remanent than chemicals.
