More info

Château Palene is situated in the small village of Ladaux, in the heart of the Entre Deux Mers region of Bordeaux, 20 miles South East of downtown Bordeaux.

The Maubrac Guerin Estate is over 75 hectares of vines. It is one of the oldest Bordeaux estate run today by the family 6th generation of winemakers.

Antoine Barthe bought his first vines between 1894 and 1907, about 2.59 hectares which allowed him to live. His son Henri, continued this lifestyle by expanding the estate throughout his life. In 1963, Henri Barthe donated the vines to his daughter Marie-Anne Valentine. Her son Henri Robert, born in 1936 who carried on the family tradition until 2 new heirs come : Marie-Hélène and Christine. Later, in love with this profession and this life, Christine decided to continue the adventure with her father. Two years after the death of Henri Robert in 1998, Christine Maubrac and Eric Guérin joined forces by creating the EARL Vignobles Maubrac Guérin.

The red grape varieties comprised 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc, and 15 hectares dedicated to white varietals such as Semillon 50%, Sauvignon Blanc 30%, and Muscadelle 20%.

The landscape is mostly fertile and green, rolling gently between 33 and 330ft (10–100m) above sea level. The vineyard is planted on sand, lime clay hills that have great East-West exposures at a density of 3000 to 4000 vines stock per hectare. The average vine age is 20 years. The average yield is 65Hl/Ha and the annual production for the white is approx. 600Hl and 2400Hl for the red.

Here the white wines are meticulously harvested in the early morning, destemmed, followed by skin contact and fermentation at cool temperatures and some aging on the lees in stainless steel or cement vats.

The Château Palene Red features a diverse range of aromas favoring the expressions of fruit with fresh and delicate aromas. The palate has a round structure with soft tannins. It is elegant, supple, balanced, and harmonious. Perfect with red meats and cheeses.
